Qn. Where did the inspiration for Checkit come from?

Checkit was originally designed for an existing client (Kellogg’s) who struggled to manage their paper-based safety inspections and the corresponding data gathered.

They (Kellogg’s) used a proprietary 3rd party system that was enormously expensive, didn’t allow for checklist or reporting customization and meant they had to use proprietary scanners and had to have all their inspection checklists printed (at great cost) by their then provider.

At that time, we had developed a solution (used in a fleet management product we sell in South Africa) that would solve this problem for them.

They asked if we could customize something for them and realized that Kellogg were like so many other large, multi-site, multinational brand name companies that struggled with the same problem and thus Checkit was born!

Checkit is now used by Kellogg (and others) for a wide range of applications – behavioural based safety observations, accident investigations, risk assessments, supplier assessments, quality audits, OSHA 300 reporting, food safety inspections, health and safety audits….. the possibilities are endless.

Qn: Can You Tell us a little about Your Industry?

Qn: Can you tell us about some of the work you have carried out to date?

We presently work with:

  • Kellogg (behavioural based safety, supplier assessment, quality audits)
  • Pinnacle Foods (occupational safety inspections)
  • Fonterra (behavioural based safety observations)
  • Western Refining (Health and safety assessments)
  • Diamond Foods (occupational safety observations)
  • Mosaic (Health, safety and risk assessments)

And are in the sales process with many other large, multinationals for the same and more applications.

** Qn. What makes Checkit unique and innovative?
Quite simply:**

Checkit can accept inspection/assessment/audit data from paper, browser and app – no one else can do that.

Our checklists are user configurable – meaning that users can create their own checklists

Our solution has a very wide range of flexible reporting capabilities including user configurable dashboards, business intelligence reporting cube, standard system reports, custom reporting where/if needed

Checkit is incredibly cost effective. Average ROI in our client base is 1500% per year, payback less than a month with average annual saving (across our client base) of more than USD $200,000 per year.

** Qn. What are you plans for the future of Checkit?**

We have a roadmap for additional features and functionality (happy to share). Presently adding ability to add electronic signatures to completed inspections/assessments/audits, etc.

** What are your best selling services?**
Safety related assessments/audits/observations.

** Qn. Who are the governing bodies that regulate your industry?**

None but Checkit is used by clients to meet any and all regulations where standards/codes of conduct must be met. Whether it be Occupational Health and Safety requirements (OSHA), food safety requirements (HACCP), environmental standards (ISO 14001), and more.

Qn. Have you received any recognition or awards for your products?

All of our focus and attention has been spent on our clients and product so we haven’t applied for any awards yet. However, we are confident that we’ll be winning many awards in the near future and we’d love for our independent sales partners to share in the success and excitement that comes with that!

** Qn. Are you a member of any industry associations?**

We participate in National Safety Congress conferences and trade shows, American Society of Safety Engineers conferences and trade shows, Canadian Society of Safety Engineers conferences and tradeshows.

** Qn. Please describe the typical sales cycle and process to sales agents.**

Lead generation by cold call or cold email followed by online (GoTo) product demo, sometimes followed by a 2 – 4 week pilot/trial (free of charge), proposal, close.

All in all (varies wildly across prospects) the cycle takes between 2 – 6 months.

** Qn. How do you currently bring in new business or win contracts?**

Currently most of our business has come in via word of mouth recommendation, Cold Email and our presence at tradeshows Nationwide.

** Qn. What made you consider wanting to work with independent sales agents?**

Want to work with salespeople who are experienced, eager and specialised in their profession. Independent sales agents seem to possess all of these traits.

I have built and run B2B software companies in the past and working with external sales partners seems to be the best approach. The only other real alternative is paid head-hunters which is outrageously expensive and without guaranteed results.

** Qn. Why would sales agents have an edge selling your products?**

Checkit is widely applicable across a wide range of sectors, our inspection management solution is enormously flexible and can be used for virtually any kind of inspection, assessment, observation, investigation and audit.

Checkit is unique in a number of ways - particularly the ability to collect data from paper, browser and app. It’s a very straightforward system, easy to explain and very easy to quickly determine if there is a need in a given prospect. Not to mention that we have already been proven as the best solution in this area by some of the largest and most respected brands globally.
