Where did the inspiration for SKM Services Ltd come from?

In the early 2000s, the opportunity arose to develop pore characterisation in the UK within my sector. I saw a gap in the market, so I set up my own company. I specialise in one area of testing and have a strong reputation in the field for a fast turnaround timescale from receipt of sample materials to the reporting of the results.

Can you tell us about some of the work you have carried out to date?

We have worked for the major oil companies – this has been our main source of work. However, we have completed studies for chemical and geological laboratories, research laboratories, pharmaceuticals, universities, medical research, agricultural products (specifically a water retainer), and a paper supplier. We are keen to branch out further into new sectors with the help of freelance sales reps.

What made you consider wanting to work with independent sales agents?

Although we have had some experience with industries other than the oil and gas sector, we would like to expand our reach to other industries and feel the best way to achieve this is with freelance sales agents. With 15 years’ experience, we are considered market leaders in our sector. We would like agents to help us reach new markets where there is scope for large volume analysis and repeat business.

What’s your greatest client success story?

We have built a reputation on a quick turnaround which includes a rigorous quality assurance process. We have received many plaudits for our turnaround time. However, we do feel that repeat business is the best success story of all.

Tell us a little about your expertise in the Materials testing arena

For the last 40 years I have been involved in the analysis of material, predominately on behalf of the oil and gas sector. I have vast experience in laboratory analysis in addition to six years of offshore work in a sampling environment. Since 2003, when I started the company, I have specialised in porosity characterisation analysis of any porous material, supplying an injection profile of up to 60,000 psi.

In addition to independent agents directly selling your service, would referrals be of interest to you?

Absolutely. You may feel your area of sales or experience doesn’t lend itself to materials testing but if you already sell to - for example - chemical companies, ceramic manufacturers, companies who produce paper and cardboard products and really to any manufacturing process, then you could refer them to us for quality assurance testing of their products. Referral commission will be paid on completed orders.

Why would sales agents have an edge selling your services?

We are very competitively priced, and we have the fastest turnaround since we specialise in this one test. Customer service is hugely important to us. We can offer a free sample analysis for new clients which is a great selling tool for agents.

How do you currently bring in new business or win contracts?

We are one of the sponsors of the Society of Core Analysts and have a presence on their website which gives us exposure for oil and gas related companies. We are reactive to enquiries and complete tenders on request. We are happy to run a free test sample for any new clients to show what our test can achieve for their business.
